The budgeting software I recommend and personally use is You Need A Budget (YNAB).
I chose YNAB over Mint because I wasn't comfortable providing Mint access to my bank accounts and YNAB's philosophy is for you to be more hands on with your budgeting including manually entering your expenses into the various account registries. It also had enough "shiny" analysis that made it preferable to an excel spreadsheet.
The methodology behindYNAB can be found at: https://www.youneedabudget.com/method
They offer a fully functional 34 day trial, plenty of YouTube videos for education, and free webinars to get it up and running if you purchase.
